Hi I have a Mk6 1x6 and it seems that on 1 mag (it looks like its farther away) like it has a minus magnification, if I put it to 2 mag it looks comparable to the naked eye, is this normal??
thanks Romar

I get that with all low powered variables, and playing around with very experienced friends have found that it isn't unusual. For me it's right around 3X where I break even.

The issue as I understand it is that our eyes gather light but we see with our brains. Since our brains are smarter than our eyeballs it doesn't necessarily believe what it knows isn't true and corrects. Many decades ago when I was in grade school I remember a science film where a test subject wore a optical fixture to make everything look upside down. After 3 days his vision flipped everything back to normal. It took the same amount of time to correct when he quit wearing them as well.

All of which sort of comes into play when someone announces to the world at large that nobody needs more than 4X or whatever X. It might be true for him but isn't necessarily what the next guy sees, or more properly processes. His 4 might be the next guy's 2.

Another thing is guys who can comfortably shoot with both eyes open. When I shoot a 20-25 X scope with both eyes open I'm not seeing two different size images at the same time, although I can deliberately pick either at will. The next guy's head would explode if he tried. No use telling each other what we are supposed to see.
