Has any one ever heard or seen one of these? It stands 50 inches tall to the top of the swivel assembly and is adjustable for windage and elevation and the the whole assembly can be locked into place so as not to move.On the swivel a rifle is placed into 2 spring u clamps and sighted onto target and held fairly securely as to show proper sight picture (me thinks). The swivel assembly is painted black and the rest is a drab green color.I will have pics up in a few days
But in the mean time does any one know exactly what it is,what it is worth and what it was used for??? One more thing...on top of the steel/cast mount where the legs bolt to it is marked in raised lettering..mk111. Any help would be appreciated....thx in advance..Ice..:)

Do you mean the Canadian Armourer’s Stand (click here and scroll to bottom of page)http://enfieldrifles.profusehost.net/ti1.htm?

~Angel~ has one of those. Huge bugger that stands in the middle of the family room..........

On occasion, I've used it as a holding device to take pics of various rifles like the one below.

Shoot to Live

During the Big One, Col Steve Johnson of the Canadian Army wrote a book called Shoot to Live. It has some clever cartoons and drawings, but he gets tiresome to read after the first few pages. The contemporary rifle manuals were very thin and hardly worth using as instructors' references. Just because a guy can shoot doesn't mean he can teach others. The interweb and column miles of journalists writing about shooting just didn't exist. Johnson devised a series of training aids to allow instructors to show waves of recruits the principles and fundamentals of marksmanship without necessarily firing much of the scarce ammunition.

The aiming rest had a very simple but brief need. The instructor would align the rifle on a target and invite students to see how he was aimed. They'd do the same and he'd #### all over their slopping this or that. In the end everyone learned with a rifle, and not a diagram on a wall chart, how to place the front sight. Literally, that is its entire and sole purpose.

Thats it BadgerDog,thats exactly what i have. Now that i know what it is i just have to figure out what to do with it cause i havent used it in 15 years!!!!! I used to use it for bore sighting and such but when i moved i took it apart and just stored it....hmmmmmmmmm???

Hey, i have one of those too,it was in the lockup when i was in Cadets in the 60's,a couple of years ago some one found it standing at the dump and brought it over.it needs a adjusting screw ,if some one has spare parts let me know

I wouldn't mind one of those. Every armouries used to have a few of them kicking around. Typical overbuilt old pre-unification Canadian Army stuff.
I'm darned if I know what I would do with one though. My collecting room is already so full I can hardly walk from one end to another.
So if anyone in the Vancouver area has one they would like to part with for 50 bucks or so...give me a PM!

BTW: Don't tell my wife...okay?

I bought one from a friend for $40.00. Tore it down, lubed it and painted it anew with the same paint color. It is a really well made and sturdy gizmo. The concentric twin screws for elevation have no backlash at all.
We use it at the range for primary bore sighting when adjusting scopes. It saves a lot of ammo. :)
PP.

Anyone know where I can get a set of the leather covers that go over the "U" Clamps on it? Mine are worn through to the metal and it can easily scratch the rifle if one's not careful. :)

Badger,
I'm sure that the originals are now extinct, although there is probably a dusty box of them is the back of a CF warehouse somewhere.
You would probably be best off to find a local leatherworker to repro you a set. If there is a Tandy Leather store near you they could most likely recommend someone or sell you the tools/materials to make some yourself.
A saddler would also be able to whip some up in no time.
