I hope it is OK to put this here - it did not seem quite right for the general firearms forum.

This morning I called up the MNR Outdoors Card office. I had not had my card since the early 1990's. I figured I would not be on record any more, but my boss suggested I call them before I sign up for a hunter safety course. I told the girl on the phone what the situation was, and so she asked me my name, birthdate, and address from the time I had the card. Then she told me she still had me in the system. At that point, she took my new address, and said they would get that in the mail. Then she gave me my licence number, in case I wanted to go and buy some tags before the card got here.

To be honest, I am shocked and stunned by this. It was so easy! I am also quite happy to not have to do my hunter education course. Today is a good day. :D

I only wish I had tried this earlier. I could have applied for a deer tag! Ah well, rabbits and coyotes, look out! You too, geese and ducks.

Well if you have been out of the hunting circuit for 20+ years, it might have been a good idea to re-take the hunter safety course. I don't know you, & you might be the safest hunter on the planet, but alot has changed in 20+ years. I wish you good luck & great hunting success!

I was thinking a refresher might not be a bad idea, so I ordered the Hunter Education manual from OFAH.

Not a lot has changed, except perhaps the Provincial Regs! Be sure to read the MNR Hunting Reg book cover to cover, and then re-read it. :)

Welcome back to the fraternity. I will pass along your experience to a friend of mine who had his hunting licence in the late '80's and has been out of country for 22 years. He is back soon. maybe they still have him in the archives as well.

Not to be a jackass. But what has changed about safe hunting methods in the last 20 years?

There is a lot in the regs. Better to understand them than to be caught with your pants down. It probably varies by instructor, but mine was great fun and wouldn't be a waste of time for anyone.

Also, I've had great experience too about the outdoors card folks having information well archived.
