I am looking to get a non restricted rifle in the new year. I have had Reminton 700, Savage 11, and Tikka T3 in the past which could all shoot MOA without a sweat. My next rifle I am considering a black semi auto 223 that can get the MOA performance I want. It must be able to shoot heavier ammo in the 60's and must shoot MOA as it will be used for small critters at up to 200m. I am considering the SL8, XCR, ACR etc but if I can't get the accuracy I want I will just stick with a bolt gun. Just would like to be able to snap a folow up shot quickly if needed.

On a side note I use to use my first AR15 for this a long time ago when it was legal. So yes I personaly know semi auto could be an benifit for the critters. I already have an AR15 so it does not have to fill that niche.

Thanks

Most of these rifles can group an inch at 100 but it is very ammo dependent. You have to find or develop a load your rifle shoots well with.

What is your budget ? What kind of optics do you prefer to use ? Some guns utilize certain optics better than others (8-32x56 can look funny on a Tavor...). Do you shoot from a bipod ?

Swiss Arms will do it, SL8 and XCR should do the trick. Like J996 said, you will have to try out different types of ammo (though you would have to do the same with a bolt gun anyways).

Wow! A lot of help in just minuts! Well to add to the discussion I do use a 16 power scope and one will be mounted on this future rifle. I do use a bipod. I do reload. And I have a wall of medals that say I can shoot (well... at least when I was young). Budget? I don't care what I spend as long as I get quality for the $

Benelli MR-1 for the accuracy win.
I seen one shooting sub-MOA groups all day, somwhere on the intranets... oh wait, right here on CGN!!!
Nothing can touch it. NOTHING!

Well if it were me I'd go with a flat top Swiss (black special target) or maybe try out one of them new ACR's (I hear they're accurate as well).

The Swiss is not free floated and I have achieved the very best accuracy by shooting it off the magazine with nothing touching the forend. How set are you on using a bipod when hunting?

Dunno for non restricted but my SPR AR is the black sheep of the BR shooter at my range

I was told SL8 are very accurate but never tried or seen one in real

the gun out shoot me all day long

Well I don't have to use a bipod but at the least I would use a mag to support the rifle. I do like the use of a bipod though. I did not know the Swiss arms rifles were not free floated. This would be an x on their score sheet unless you know they will shoot an inch.

Yes sir they sure can do an inch. I don't reload and use factory ammo. I group 5 rounds between 1" and 1.5" consistently. I have never done sub moa with it but I don't hand load for it either. I'm using a 4X acog on it.
Other guys here do hand load and have put up some impressive groupings.
The non-freefloat affects nothing as long as no pressure is put on the barrel while shooting.
I use the rifles bipod to keep it up out of the mud or snow when I have to set it down somewhere.

Both my XCR-L and my brother's XCR-L with Hornady 223 Rem 60gr TAP-TDP shot better than 1 MOA at 100m.
This was done with the production 18.6" 1-9" twist heavy barrel with a Harris Bipod and a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6x24-50 Mil-Dot riflescope.
I've produced many good groups with other riflescopes but only the 6x24-50 can crank out sub 1 MOA groups consistently.

Also, this ammo shots better than 1 MOA in a 1-9" AR15 and much better than 3/4 MOA in a Remington 700 223 Rem 1-9".

With a sub par Redfield scope my Sl8 is still sub MOA. I reload though so I don't know what it would do with factory amo. I think the match over the counter would be fine though. I'm shooting 55 grain Hornady and Sierras and the gun will shoot right around
3/4". I know the heavier bullets probably shoot better but I don't care for the balistics for hunting. I'm putting a Leupy on it as well as the metal top rail and I think the groups should shrink a bit again. I think most of these Military type guns are limited a little to the trigger pull weight but other than that they should all be close to MOA with reloads.
