MOA requirements for 1000-1800 yards?

How much moa adjustment is required for these extreme ranges with a 338 Lapua?

I'm thinking Nightforce 12-42x 56mm benchrest NP-R2 reticle (40 moa) or NF 8-32x benchrest (50 moa) mounted on a 25 moa rail.

Distance 1000 yards to 1800. 1500 being more likely as a maximum.

Do a google for jbm balllistics.

You will get a great ballistics program where you can play around with your load info and get a drop chart out to 3000yds.

As a simple rule, whatever it took to get to 1000yds, you will need that to get to 1500yds and again to get to 1750yds. There is nothing that shoots flat beyond 1000yds.

With a lower MOA scope and picket fence/mil dot reticle, one route to max elevation adj is to set your close range zero using the 'upper' part of the reticle. That way the center is say 500 to 800yds out with your scope at full down. Now you have the full amount of up AND bottom part of the reticle to make the trip.

This is how I am able to get a 30min scope to reach out to 1500/1600yds with a flat shooting chambering.

You definitely want a set of Burris rings to help fine tune your scope shim so your elevation is maximized.

You'll probably be happier with the 5.5-22x. I'm pretty sure that Rick is running the 8-32x NXS on his 338 LAI but I don't know what base he uses. Plus I think if something shows up at 300-400 yards he packs up and sneaks away from the animal to shoot it from there.

This one is going to be a long range precision cannon. Because of this, I want as much magnification as possible. It won't be for hunting. The total weight will be around 27 pounds

Barnard PL action (338 Lapua) with ejector, 30" True lite match barrel with heavy contour, Robertson composite stock (filled, which is one of the reasons for the weight). I also have a very nice muzzle brake picked out.

This rifle is basically a copy of a buddy of mines. Milo on these forums bought and put together the same rifle. I'm copying his with some minor differences for my own preferences.
