So I have read alot about using Mobil1 for greasing guns with. I tried to find some locally and had no luck, I checked Canadian Tire, Lordco, another car parts store, my local gun stores and none of them had it. Just wondering where you guys buy yours from? Also this is just to be used as grease correct? You still have to lube some parts with gun oil? Like going off of the lube schematic for guns. Thanks.

You can use any decent synthetic motor oil instead of a gun oil. I'll switch to that once my supply runs out but I'm very light on that so it'll take a while. For grease, I'm not sure if there is a Mobil 1 grease, but I use Lucas Red'n'Tacky, lithium-based, great temperature range, dirt cheap.. I split it in 3... One third will probably last me for a decade or more, the other will last my buddy a lifetime and the rest I use for odd jobs around the house/garage, even used it when doing a brake job, no issues.

+1. I use Lucas Red n Tacky as well. Works great. You can find Mobil 1 grease at Parts Source if that's what you really want to use.

Oh maybe I was mistaken, I thought people when they were talking about Mobil1 that they were talking about grease, but they are using the synthetic oil as gun oil? Okay then haha but you guys are using Lucas grease? Interesting, thanks.

I use the pink grease, Motomaster I think. Stuff used for extreme/motor sports or something, cant remember the exact name. Canadian Tire.

I buy synthetic Mobil 1 GREASE at Canadian tire. I use it on my truck. I would use motor oil before I used this stuff.

A couple of notes on the 3 products mentioned. I got the red'n'tacky because it's generally popular in the gun community. Its dropping point is actually higher than the Castrol high temperature stuff (540 Lucas, 500 Castrol) and a touch lower than Mobil 1 (550). With that being said, the difference is negligible and in general, they're all very similar products, so use what works for you.

Canadian Tire sells Permatex synthetic grease in convenient squeeze tubes.

Another option is Lubriplate 105, an NLGI grade 0 grease sold as engine assembly lube. Compared with the typical grade 2 automotive greases, the softer consistency may be advantageous for guns.

Generally, if you're going to use grease, it is applied to sliding surfaces. Oil works best for getting into nooks and crannies.

Chain lube for my dirt bike works good. I also use copaslip or slik mixed with kroil on the metal edges of the bolt and reciever. The wearing edges of the metal end up riding on the copper instead of the steel.

I run 10/40 mobil1 FS for oil and I grease the bolt/carrier point with red and tacky and I use red and tacky on my pistols

I'm pretty sure I saw you putting KY jelly on your guns. I figured that was a good time to leave!!!

I've considered using engine oil. Was actually looking at some of the Shell Roteilla 0W40 I had left over for my diesel from up North but.. haven't tried it. G96 works as my base. Then gun oil on some of the high wear points. That stuff fireball suggested does seem really slick and seems to work well (Not the KY). I just don't know how they stack up in variable climates such as the cold. I know G96 with actual approved gun oil worked perfectly after my firearm was exposed in sub -50 Celsius weather. As a result I'm hesitant to try anything else.
