Mod 700 VTR vs SPS tactical

I'm looking at getting a rem 700 in .223, the 2 models that interest me are the VTR and the SPS tactical. reasons for this is they both come in a heavy barrels and are the only 2 mod 700 .223 that come in a faster (9") twist. And are both priced reasonably. the VTR qualifies for remingtons 100$ mail in rebate so at the end there is about a 50$ price difference.
I like the triangular barrel on the VTR, I think its quite cool. but I'm wondering if it is worth the extra couple bucks, the tactical comes with a nice short 20" barrel while the VTR uses a 22" keeping in mind the muzzle brake on the vtr is about 2" long they both have the same effective barrel lenghts. I do plan on updating the stock for a composite one. would the hogue overmold that comes on the tactical worth more on the market than the regular green sps type stock off the VTR? lets hear your opinions, keeping in mind that i made up my mind on the remmy's so if you plan on telling me to get a Savage, save yourself some typing. :nest:
 
The deciding factor is the brake. I went with the SPS because I didn't want a brake. The EE has a few of those stocks, you can see what they're worth.

The Hogue Stock is worth a bit more, as it is at least functional. The VTR is a different coloured varmint stock and total garbage.You'll get 50-60 for the VTR(maybe a liitle more if the buyer is dumb and likes green), and $80 to 100 for the hogue.

It comes down to the fact you are not using either stock, so do you want to pay $50 more for a triangled barrel, that does nothing, or do you want to put that 50bux toward your new stock?
 
I read that the Hogue Stock is kind of a crappy one. Somewere on the net I read a review and they said that when the stock was resting on a bipod that it flexd so much that it was touching the barrel and it was'nt floating no more.
 
Well if its on the net it must be true lol. i can find a bad review of anything if I look hard enough.

I just bought the SPS tac (.308), and I really like it overall. Wasn't too crazy about the 'rubbery' feeling of the stock at first, but got used to it. I've only put a few rounds through it, but after seeing how it performed, I knew immediately it would be a 'never sell' rifle.

VTR barrel always looked a little cheesy to me, that and the stock felt cheap. I like to stick with more traditional guns.

Nice,lots off reply's so far. so it looks like i will more than likely go for the tactical, looks like the vtr is like i was thinking, more marketing hype than real world usefull stuff. Reason why i dont want the varmint, or any other mod 700 .223 is the twist rate, 1:9 VTR and TAC, 1:12 all the others. I want to be able to shoot the heavier bullets accurately.
