Ok off the wall idea... Modding a Ruger mini14 to a M14/M305 :weird:

anyone ever try to mod a Ruger Mini14 to look like a M14's/M305 ? could it be done? why would you want to do it. because I can & might try. :eek: ;) a 5.56 M14 wow. I like the looks of the M14's but just don't like the weight of the gun & cost of the ammo involved. So hence my questions

A few tubes of JB Weld and you will be the envy of airsofters everywhere!

Well, there are barrel stabilizers for the Mini-14 that are designed to increase their accuracy (i.e. Har-Bar, Mo-Rod, or Accu-Strut), that give the gas assembly a similar look to that of the M-14.

Other than the barrel stabilizer, if it's an older model mini with the thinner barrel profile, I'd say maybe get one of the wooden handguards like my 181 series rifle has, and maybe the Choate M14 style flash hider.

I'd also maybe poke around the Perfect Union Mini-14 forums. There's a ton of information on there about the Mini, and if someone else has ever tried to make an M-14 lookalike, their build info would be posted there.

Stock Mini

I purchased a stock mini-14 this summer. It is the Ranch, with wood. It would have that "cool" look with the flash suppressor, but all in all, it shoots very well.

It already has that look and feel of my m14, less the weight. Why would you want to mod further? Although, I really really don't like that goofy op rod guard.

I don't know how to explain this to you, the mini-14 already is in fact a mini M14. How much closer can you get? It's the same system scaled down except for the fact the gas system is hidden under wood and hand guard. All you can do is glue on a tube and fake gas locks to appear more M14'y

Actualy there is no gas piston system on the mini 14;

Now me personaly I think it's a hybrid between the M14 and the M1 Carbine platforms;

If you notice Ruger used the same gas sytem from the M1 carbine and also the same style top of the reciever but he did incorperate the trigger, lower reciever and oprod system from the M14 platform.
Just my 2 cents :p

The Choate flash hider for the Mini-14, and the wooden handguard gives the rifle an M-14 look. The 580 with the heavier, tapered barrel is a lot more accurate than the older version with the pencil barrel. However, I don't think the Choate FH fits the new barrel.

Man that is slick, the field strip comes apart so easy..

I only know one guy who owns a mini14 ranch & target model, but I'm not close to him. He said last year that these guns aren't tack drives & he had to spend a lot of cash & custom work to get it to shoot under an inch group. Is there any truth to this?

Target with harmonic dampener no but all other models is a hell ya. But the target madel weigh's more than the M14 fully loaded.

I might try making a "Mini 59 Alpine" one of these days, which would be modding a stainless mini 14 to have a passing resemblance to the Beretta BM 59 alpine (Folding stock model of the BM 59).

For now, I'm going to thread the muzzle of my Blued Mini 14 to have an AR 15 style flash hider.

Basically, I would make a BM 59 alpine-style folder and a sort of a perforated muzzle attachment that is strictly for show.

Target Version - All Hype!

I used to own the target version. Bad news on that front. It was a hopeless cause and certainly not the "tack driver" it was hyped up to be. Big disappointment there, and it did not matter what load I put through it.

My new Ranch mini shoots 50's and 55 gr pills with some impressive consistency, but not a long range shooter. My bolt is up to that task.

But, for the "cool" factor and just plain 'ol fun to shoot, ya can't beat either of the mini (cheap to shoot) or the M14.
