Hi there.
I recently got back my grandfathers' model 12/12ga and have noted that (i dont know the names of most shotgun componants)
the ..protrusion on the botton of the bolt, which holds shells flush in the magtube while the bolt is closed, is worn down, and therefore the shells dont reliably stay flush in the tube (sometimes mild jostling makes them fall rearward into the action.

anyway,
obviously the thing to do is get a new bolt for the thing.
are such things still available? or is this gun so old that I'm out of luck?

thanks so much,
-Derek

e-gunparts.com would probably have them. I'll check my Western gun parts catalog in a bit for you.

Just checked Western and they don't have it listed.

yikes..
just looked, breech bolt, stripped 12GA is what i need I beleive,
109 bucks..
:S I suppose I'll get it if I need to, but is anything else compatible? maybe a stripped bolt from a different winchester gun, a modern one?

thanks!

How big of a rush are you in to get this repaired? The reason I ask is that the parts are available as new parts, for sure. But, as you've seen, they can be somewhat expensive when compared to the value of the gun.

If you have another shotgun that you can use in the meantime, I would suggest a visit to the next gun show in your area. Model 12 parts are easily found at most gun shows and the price should be much more reasonable.

I called Western Gun Parts (it's a local call for me). They have the stripped breech bolt in stock for:

$99.95 - NEW, or
$50.00 - USED.

They stressed that this is for the breech bolt only (stripped) - no other parts remain attached.
