I was under the impression that Marlin was going to quit making these as of last year. Either they have left overs or changed thier minds because it is in the new Russell's sports catalog I have.

I accidentilly bought dies for this round  and know very little about it, but for $620 I may have to buy one and find out. (Unless this is a cruel joke of some kind and there is actually none left for sale)

Is the recoil on one of these monsters as bad as I'm imaginning it would be??

How is it compared to the 45/70......ballistically speaking?

I have one and absolutely love it.

Recoil is certainly apparent but nothing one can't handle. I would equate it to shooting 3" Magnum 12 Gauge slugs out of a 14" shotty or something along those lines.

Factory ammo is hotter in .450 Marlin than any factory .45-70 load with the .450 Marlin having significantly hotter velocity, energy, and a flatter trajectory. That said, one can crank out some pretty hot .45-70 handloads on the bench in the basement that would rival the .450 Marlin factory loads. I have yet to play with reloading the .450 Marlin so don't know just how much more can be had out of hand loading it, not that it needs any!!!
