I've finally received my grandfathers Model 1934 Beretta and have been searching the net to find information about various markings and years. So far I've found most of what I'm looking for except info on the proofing stamp on the left side below the slide. It is a crown with R.F stamped there. All that I've been able to discern so far is that R.E (Regio Esercito) were issued to the army. I've looked at the stamp with a magnifying glass to see if there was some wear causing the E to look like an F but that does not seem to be the case.

Is it possible that the stamping was just not done very well on this particular example?
