Model 29 Mountain Gun Question

I know they are 4" and 12(6) on not they aren't coming to here.
On the website in the overview it says stainlees steel revolver, in the technical specs it says carbon steel finish Blue. Question: Stainless and carbon aren't the same are they? What kind of finish can you do to stainless?
I e-mailed and asked what this firearm was made of S&W said stainlees.
