My cousin recently picked up an old Cooey 64 but the original charging handle is a bit small. He is a big guy and with the scope, manipulating the bolt can be a challenge. I know there are extended aftermarket handles available in the USA, but the ones I have found do not ship north of the border. Is there anyone in Canada that makes them? It is a first generation Model 64, but I think they are all the same in this regard.

One on Equipment exchange- different colors, 3d printed
Another option, - someone with lathe can mill new one. If you don't like 3d printed one, pm me - I can try to mill it.

If the newer 64 handles will fit, you can get them from Kinney's Shooting Supply. It's in the US, but they ship to Canada.

I second Kinney's, I have an older 64B that the DIP extended charging handle will fit. While you're ordering from Kinney's I'd suggest an extended magazine release too.

I took a self-tapping bolt, added an oversize nut to rotate on the bolt like a sleeve, rounded off the hex-flats of both. I always go for the bubba-look.
See the Ext-mag release below, and the 'widened' mag well too.

Yea, the extended mag release is my favourite upgrade for this gun, more so than the charging handle.

tbhupe, if you end up getting the mag release, take a picture of the spring on the factory release before you drive the pin out. It'll save you an hour of messing around to figure out which way it's supposed to go back together.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check out Kinney's. I can do some basic metal work myself and failing that, I know a guy who is a wizard at all things machining. The rifle itself was first generation with the plastic mag. I converted it over with the kit so that it will take the newer metal magazines. So far, my cousin hasn't had any issues with the mag release so we'll leave it be for now.

There is my final design, weight 15 g against original 10g but if you look at the whole bolt ( moving mass) difference is small 179 against 174 g or just 2.79% I am going to check how it's working today, but in terms of convenience- already day and night difference 20230524_124954.jpg

For my mag release I just drilled a hole in the OEM one and forced a piece of 'clothes-hanger wire' in it. In the pic I just covered it with JB Weld, and on another 64 I 'looped' the end and have No JB on it.
On both rifles I 'relieved' the mag-well edges to allow easier mag insertion. This newer one does not have a 'bottom-metal' plate, it's just plastic like the stock. I chamfered it as well.
PS - Grin, your handles look really well-done. Wish I had a lathe, filing gets old after a while
