Hi, i have a model 70 7mm-08 which is fairly new and probably considered a post model 70 ..its an ultimate shadow or weather warrior type stainless model ... i am thinking about getting it re barreled with a good quality barrel but unsure what maker to contact . I'm not looking to spend thousands ..just have it re barreled, trued , lapped what ever it may need ... i plan to do the bedding job myself with devcon and homemade allunium pillars!! Who do you recommend for the rebarreling ???

"...thinking about getting it rebarreled..." What's wrong with the barrel you have? Or is it an "I want to" thing?
You planning on staying with the .308 family of cartridges? Only matters if you go with a bigger or smaller case head cartridge and the COAL for the mag.
I'd be thinking Douglas Premium barrel myself. Who does it will depend on how long you want to wait for it. Think in terms of several months at least. Maybe longer. Smithies are busy guys.

Where in NS are you located?

Sam Adams in the Truro area does very good work. There is also a target rifle shooter in New Glasgow who does barrel installations from time to time (and he too does very good work), I might be able to put you in touch with him.

Will you be putting on a hunting-weight barrel? Or a heavier varmint type profile, or a heavier-yet target profile?

It is an i want thing ... the gun has remington tendencies ..lol , it will group 2 shots and throw one sometimes 2" from the group at 100yrds , i realize the stock is cheap and i have only ever tried nosler ballistic tip and accubond in the gun ...but i like the rifle and just got thinking it would be nice to have it shoot better, i've had remingtons like this and yes some bullets will shoot better than others but never really constant like my tikka 7mm-08 which will shoot under an inch @ 100 all day !

Not that I want to discourage you from having work done, but you might want to try a few more loads and consider having the action bedded. That might smarten the rifle up quite a bit. Peter Dobson at Hirsch Precision is in Lake Echo and can probably point you in a good direction and Daniel has given some good local knowledge too.

I would even order a Boyd's stock and bed it. They are rigid and look good too. I would also be trying different loads. Some of my rifles shoot many different bullets well, others are pretty finicky but, when I find the right combo, shoot very nicely. If it doesn't shoot better after that, you should be looking at a new barrel. I would reccomend a Ted Gaillard (Canadian), Krieger, or even a Shilen.
Have fun!
