Model 70 parts - what do I have here?

Purchased a post 64 Model 70 from a user on the EE. I knew it was a bit rough and was told the safety didnt work.
No big deal I figured.

I started to look at it the other night and noticed the breach bolt sleave looks different than my other Win 70 bolt
sleaves.

Obviously the safety is the wrong one.

Wondering if the bolt parts I have are from a pre-64 model? It doesn't seem to have the sleave cover on the
back, the cocking indicator on the firing pin and used a screw to keep the sleave on the firing pin.

The action and bolt body are post 64 with a "G" serial number.

Trying to figure out how to fix this franken-bolt and get eveything working

It certainly looks like a pre 64 bolt shroud as the push feed Winchester uses pins not screws and the safety was round not flat on the end. You might be able to find the proper shroud , you could try Western gun parts in Edmonton.

The safety is definitely wrong. It's way more modern than the rest of the firing pin assembly. It's also a 2 position, and not a 3 position.

I'm sure I can find a new safety lever since places are making them but I'm not sure about the safety plunger part.

I'm not familiar with the pre-64 models but I'm thinking that this might be what I have in the picture (minus the safety lever).

The bolt and action it came out of was definitely a post 64 push feed "G" series model.

Any help trying to figure out what I have is definitely appreciated.

A pre64 firing pin is shorter than a post 64, so if that gun functioned at all, you have the post64 parts.

I've never seen a safety like that on any model 70 including cooeys, but that doesn't mean they were never made.

Post a pic of the whole firing pin and the exact overall length and I'll be able to tell you what it's from. There's a number of things that don't look right.

All the parts are available but good luck getting them from wgp.

That safety is a 3 position. The reason it only has two detents is because in the forward and mid position, it allows the plunger back, and on the rear position it keeps it forward to lock the bolt.

Thanks for the info. I never fired the rifle but was told by the EE seller that it fired fine but wouldnt win any beauty contests.

I pulled the barrel off since it was pretty rough and just planned to use the action as a donor.

I cleaned up all the surface rust and pits in the bolt body and action and gave it a quick coat of Cerakote.

I found a few pics online of the pre-64 bolt sleaves and they look like what I have including the retaining screw.

The safely is wrong and extremely ugly and will be replaced for sure. Just have to keep my eye open for
a used one somewhere. I'm also missing the safety plunger and spring which I'll keep and eye open for as well.

Is there a chance its a post 64 firing pin with a pre-64 bolt sleave?

That's my guess. Post 64 pin, pre64 shroud, model 53 safety... Lol

If you google Winchester model 53 safety I think I was right on that guess.

Definitely looks like a model 53 safety.

The action and bolt body cleaned up pretty good so just have to find a few small parts to get the safety back operational and I'll have a decent donor action.

I have 3 other complete push feed model 70's and the bolts look the same. The only part that looks different is the bolt sleeve on this particular rifle.
