Model 70 safety

Yes the firing pin is assembled all the way to the lock, I am new to the rifle and never disassembled the bolt

Do you know that there is three position to your safety? All the wary forward you can work the action and fire. Middle position (90 degree), you can work the action but it should not fire. All the way to the back, you can't work the action and it should not fire.

Yes all the way back the bolt still opens

Okay, the bolt opens with the safety all the way back. Can the rifle be fired in this position as well..? or with the safety at the half position..? Since your new to the rifle. Does the safety lever feel solid in the three positions. Back - half way - forward. The lever doesn't feel loose or fall out of position easily.

I had one of mine one time act strange because the little pin that holds the lever in was loose. Check that out to see if the pin is secure and if the bolt is assembled properly.

The gun can not be fired with the safety in either rear position . It clicks firmly into either position also, the pin seems firm

The only way I could reproduce what you said on the two push feeds I have here right now was to rotate the firing pin out 1 turn. Hmm interesting what is going on there. I've never disassembles the firing pin on any M70, a K98K yes.

Well looks like the pin that moves forward when the safety is all the way back is not going far enough to catch the little groove and locking the bolt, the pin might be broken
