I have a 1953 Husqvarna Model 98 rifle with the old-style flip up/down safety.

Is there a model 70 style swing safety I can get for it?

A few years ago I bought a Dakota safety from Brownells - installed it on a 640 9.3x62 Husqvarna without too much trouble. There is a tiny roll pin that you install as last step - go slow - that really changed how smooth the three position worked.

They are made in two and three position style. The 3 allows unloading rounds and the bolt to function while safe. With the 2 it's either on safe or fire no neutral.

Is it the old style flag safety that rotates 180 degrees or a low swing?

Low swing, I use medium height scope rings and the safety clears fine. It just slips off all the time when I'm carrying the rifle loaded, which I do when I'm hunting alone.

I believe it was of poor quality or not fitted correctly...

If it "slips off all the time" than it is not pulling the striker off the trigger sear when it is being engaged. When "On", a mauser safety holds the striker, with no contact with the trigger sear. You should see the striker move rearward as the safety is engaged. Your unit sounds to be worn out, or never installed properly - seen a few with pretty radical dremel grinding that completely ruined the installation.
