Is anyone able to venture an approx value on a pre-64 model 70?

rifle details: super grade, .338 winmag, s/n 1###x
bolt jewelling has minor wear,
bluing is +95% or better - slight wear on bolt handle,
wood is nice grain and appears perfect condition
Bore looks like new

Thanks

Saw this one in Ottawa last year at Carp gun show

Winchester NEVER made a super grade pre 64 in 338!
The 338 only came in a standard configuration called the Alaskan
Also at 15,000 or so serial number that is almost pre war and the 338 caliber was not developed till the later years! I'd like to see pics as well if you need a more specific time line let me know!
That 375 in the pic is Tim Bricks and it is not a pre 64!

Meanea pretty much hit it right on the head.

Serial No's in the 1###x range ended sometime in 1950, with s/n 2###x appearing in 1951.

The 338 Win Mag was not announced/chambered by Winchester until 1958.

Maybe its been rebarreled to .338, and thus reducing value as well.

Just checked my references and the thought was good but dates are off by 10 years. The latest 1X,### can be is 1939, and not 1950 as 23,991 was at the end of the 1939 production year. In 1950 I think you were looking at 200,000?? Not to get into a pissing contest but I believe the 338 was cataloged for the first time in 1960 so the 338 should be classified as a mid-year release for 1959

Bolt jeweling(engine-turned) on the Model 70 Super Grade rifles was after 1954 or serials over 300,000 so jet hunter you may want to double check the serial and get back to us!
Jet hunter there is also another twist to your question as the 338 was first catalogued in 1960 and Winchester stopped making all Super Grades in 1959 other than the African??
