Hey gang, does anyone have experience with this rifle? I am considering adding one to the collection in 6.8 western. Will be used for deer, bear and perhaps moose. Currently using a Kimber classic select in the Roberts and a # 1 in 45-70 for big game and am looking for something with a bit more reach and better suited when the weather is shyte. I am not overly concerned with the longevity of the 6.8 as I have been slowly gathering the materials to begin hand loading.
Thanks gang.

The new model 70’s are fantastic rifles. The ones I’ve had have been incredibly accurate. Personally I’m not a fan of the MOA trigger as they come rather heavy from the factory. They can be adjusted, with mixed results.
One thing to note is that the cerakoted extreme weather models are not stainless underneath, they are blued.
I have a new EW model in 6.5 PRC and it’s great. Not the lightest rifle, but very accurate. Initially had some feeding issues with the short mag case, but works fine now.
I looked at 6.8 W, but the 6.5 PRC is just so much more popular, with way better projectile selection, so it was a no brainer for me.

Thank you for the feedback, the PRC is interesting but I like the heavier projectiles in the Western especially if/ when I would be hunting moose.

I have a Model 70 EW in 6.8, very nice rifle and the 6.8 is a great cartridge for most hunting needs. There's plenty of 6.8 specific projectiles on the market these days, the 6.8 isn't going anywhere

Thanks guys, so this raises a question and hopefully others can learn. Is a ceracoate inferior to a regular stainless steel receiver and barrel or is it the fact that it’s not coated over a stainless steel material?

Properly applied coatings are going to be pretty darn tough but it is not going to be tougher and more rust resistant than just stainless....because it's steel, not a coating! :)

In the end I don't think you will really find a performance difference between a stainless EW70 and a coated one.

Other than the price difference. If the stainless is less expensive it would be the better buy.

Well, I kinda went a different direction sort of. Stainless, fluted with a MB in 7-08. Price was better than the true timber by a couple hundred and no worries about procuring or making ammo. Now if Canada Post would just get back to work!! At least I got time to find an appropriate scope.
Thanks again guy’s. IMG_8378.png

7-08 m70 EW is a good choice, a solid rifle! That chambering still gives plenty of distance for most hunting situations
