Model 700 SPS question

I'm considering buying a rifle in 17 Rem Fireball and was wondering what this rifle was like. I'm also interested in the Model 7 Predator.

Same action as any other 700, just not as "refined" in the finish, and the stocks are crap, but they do get the job done.

The finish is similar to a nail file. I like them enough to have 3 in my safe though.

Having the same decision to make. The 7 Predator is niftier and lighter and wears a shorter barrel, but I suspect I'll pick it because of the low powder charges required - shouldn't cost much in the velocity department. Lighter than the SPS Varmint by a bunch as well, but for sitting and shooting things the SPS might be a better choice, cheaper too.

I have an SPS in 270. I like it. I sold it and bought it back. It's accurate.

Le Baron has CDL Model Sevens in .223 and 22/250 on spec for $719 if you're looking for a small walking-around varminter. I bought a .223 yesterday. I have a set of Talley LWs and a NIB VXII 2x7 here to go on it.

Ive bought a few SPS's and they are pretty decent rifles. All of mine have shot well, the finish chips off and stock sucks but you can always find stocks and BBLs on the net for cheap so it doesnt really bother me.
