I have 3 model 700 rifles that have really bad triggers on them-to much trigger pull. Can I order Timmney triggers for them from Brownells, or has there State Dept. shut that down. If so, where can I get these triggers here in Canada.

Thanks for the advice.

Any competent 'gunsmith' can work and adjust these triggers to be crisp, light, and safe... probably all three for less than the cost of one Timney trigger.

Yes Timney will send you a trigger brownells won't. Western gun parts in Edmonton is also a dealer for Timney and there are others. As mentioned most rem triggers can be tuned up pretty good however I dislike the x mark pro, changed one to a Timney and one to a jard.

I ordered my Timney trigger direct from them with no problems. You can install yourself you just have to be careful with the small springs. The trigger I ordered was a 2 lb pull and it is the difference between day and night very crisp with no creep.order 3 and replace them all you will be happy

Given all the controversy over the older style Rem. triggers (been there, had it happen to me), replacement with a good aftermarket isn't a bad idea.

If you do get them adjusted, make sure you only have it done by a REAL gunsmith who knows what he's doing! For that matter, anything at all to do with a trigger, including replacement and set up, should be done by a REAL gunsmith...if for no other reason than not saddling yourself with issues of liability in the event of an unfortunate event that a lawyer will stick up your unowhat!

Shilen makes a nice trigger for the Remington, too.

Most gunsmiths stock aftermarket triggers for Remingtons, and will install them and tune them for a pretty decent rate. Last one I had done, a Shilen, cost about $130 ready to go.

IMHO, cheap all things carefully considered.

Hi. Where you are matters.
M700 triggers are adjustable. Mind you, Remington has apparently added some goop to stop people from doing it themselves. Rumoured to be an epoxy on the adjusting screws.

"...for less than the cost of one Timney trigger..." Maybe not all three, but certainly less than buying 3 Timney's and having 'em installed. They run $129.95US for one with the safety from Timney. No need to order direct from them though.
Epp's is a Timney dealer too. Trigger work starts at $40 per firearm there.

If I had a 700 the first thing I would do is send Dennis (Guntech) the trigger. Too many people have said too many good things not too.

rem triggers

goods day all:
i have a rem 788 in .222 rem with a timney trigger and i love it.
i have it set at 3 lbs and it is very crisp with nop overtravel.
the stock trigger was crap and non adjustable.
i have a rem 660 in .243 win also with a timney trigger set to 3lbs and i love it.the stock recalled trigger had been messed with by a former owner,so i wasn't cofortable with it.
i have a rem 700 bdl in .222 rem with the factory trigger and i love it also.
i picked off the epoxy from the weight and the overtravel screw but left the sear engagement epoxy in place and untouched.
i have the weight set at 3lbs,very crisp with very little overtravel.
just like my expensive timney's.
the factory trigger on my m700 is just as light and crisp as my timney's.

Z
ps:i'm no gunsmith but did all the work myself and my triggers are very safe.

Regarding the 788 triggers, they are actually fairly easy to make adjustable, I've modified a few of mine. Timney makes a decent trigger, but don't expect a Jewel or Canjar. Of course they don't cost that much either. I haven't tried the Shilen yet. 700 triggers are easy to adjust, and the "goop" mentioned can be removed with acetone. Until you get into a very good trigger, I'm not sure it's worth the extra money between an inexpensive aftermarket and a well adjusted Rem trigger. FWIW - dan

A rem trigger may need new springs and pins.I personally don't like the floating connector, some gunsmiths will glue or solder it down.I replaced mine with a Shilen, good well made reliable hunting trigger.
