Does anybody know when Winchester stopped making the longer barrelled version of the Model 94?? I know the newer current production makes the longer barrelled version but I am not interested in these. My Grandfather had a Model 94 that was passed down to him from his father .....in 38-55. DOM 1900 and it had a 26" barrel. The overwhelming majority of the 94's I see listed are the 20" carbine version......I like the 26" version ....approx what year did they stop producing these.....or is it more complicated than this?
Thanks for your time.
Bill.

Back in Winchester's early production hay-day you could special order one in just about any configuration you could conjure up!

Having shot a 32-40 Winchester 1894 with a long barrel, I came to appreciate the configuration. Nice long sight radius, and with the heavy long barrel it stayed pretty steady when shooting off hand. I also assume that if one was using BP the longer length would get a bit more velocity. A 20" octagon barrel feels good as well, but with a round barrel the old 94 tend to jump a bit more than I prefer. That being said, my '66 with it's 16" barrel is one of my favorite rifles. I do wish it had a crescent butt plate, but all in all, a handy gun.

Miroku of Winchester is missing out a niche market. Chiappa and Rossi with barrels shorter than 16 inches (full stock)and reliable caliber are sought out in Canada.
Heck! Miroku doesn't even build a 16 inch Trapper in any caliber regular production. There must be something going on we mere peons are not privy too.

I think the "rifle" version of the 94 was stopped at the onset of WWII ( for the Americans ) and never put back in production afterwards. The Model 64 has a long barrel, but is technically a different beast. The long-barreled rifle version, as opposed to carbine length, became a thing again when Winchester started marketing commemoratives.

Those are my impressions, but I don't have documentation or references to back it up.

I keep hearing lots of love for the rifles, but personally, I prefer the carbine... it is a good balance for the platform, in the cartridges it normally comes in.

I've owned a few of the 26" barrel models over the years and love the handling of 'em for offhand target shooting, hunting & fun plinkin'. The ones I had in the past included a '66 Centennial, Canadian Centennial, Model 94 Classic & an original 1894 from 1910 that an amigo recently acquired from me. The only 26" '94 I have now is an NRA Centennial Musket that be among me favorites.

I've had & enjoyed many M94's over the years with the 20" tubes and a Legacy 24" unit. All were good to me, as I was good to them. My RCMP Centennial
Musket wears a 22" barrel.
