I have picked up a nice Winchester model 95 chambered in .303. It looks collectable except for the fact that someone engraved their SIN on the barrel. It is a nice looking piece but I have no idea if there is any value remaining to a collector. I have a nice old western painting that I could compliment with a 'wall hanger' such as this. Before I consign the piece to collecting spider webs, does anyone know if this rifle would be of interest to a casual collector? I am trying to get funds together to buy a nice trap gun and would not have a clue how to price this rifle for trading purposes. Any suggestions or information would be appreciated.

The idiot with the engraving pen really ruined the gun for collectors even if it is in pristine condition. Some guys really like 1895 Winchesters(including me) but unless chambered in .35 or .405 they really don't generate a lot of interest. It's hard to give one a value without pics. But if in run of the mill condition, standard rifle, $400-$550, in my area. It's really only a shooter. You could double that amount if you want to part it out as unfortunately is the fate of a lot of old guns that still deserve to go hunting. But if you could post pics it would help. Others may value it higher but that's my 2 cents.

I'm not sure about that Mike, I think one in .303, .30/06, or 7.62X54R would be equally desirable, although the Blue Book does put a premium on .405s. It is a shame about the unnecessary graffiti though.

"...engraved their SIN on the barrel..." Hi. That drops the value by half. Takes the rifle out of the collector realm altogether. Depending on its condition, it still has value as a shooter though.
Blue Book values don't apply to Canada. They're an average of values from all over the U.S. with no consideration for local supply and demand. They're at least 2 years out of date too.
