Friend of mine has a Carl Gustoff 1918 model 96 6.5x55. A while back his bolt went missing. Anyone know of a good source to find one? Is there fitting involved usually, and headspace adjustments as a rule?

A bolt should just drop in, #### and click.
Headspace? It would need to be checked. SAAMI headspace gauges might not be helpful - different specs than what Sweden used. Checked a lot of surplus Swedish rifles, they would all accept a SAAMI No Go. If headspace is really excessive, correcting it would require setting the barrel back and using a reamer.
A WTB ad in the EE might turn something up.
Intersurplus has bolt parts; not going to be inexpensive to get all the parts needed for a complete bolt.

Intersurplus has a whole page of m96 guns for <300$.
Doubtful op friends gun is “was”some minty number’s matching specimen.

They have one listing for a an original non shortened, non sporterized M96. Doesn't have a great bore, and missing the sights. GNG has one that is in decent exterior shape, but poor bore.

The prices vary from probably about $400-$1500ish depending on how unmolested and complete. I'm not a great judge of what it'd cost, but it's not drilled and tapped, not the later shortened M38, good bore and seemingly complete, and has the original sights and a good barrel.

Just how did you come to the conclusion that my friend's gun is worth $200 complete anyway??

The last fully intact Model 96 Swede I personally saw for sale was in honest very good condition and nice clean bore at a price of 800.00.
It sold fairly quickly.

Those are all cheap sporterized guns, not full wood military rifles in complete condition.

Nice try though.
Lol the ops guns is not complete either, who knows what’s matching or original or what condition it’s in without pictures. Don’t worry all the old guys who care about old surplus are in the same boat as 12. license holders
