Kimber rebarreled quite a few Swedes to 308 and 243 about 20 years ago or so. I've not heard of any failures of any of them. I have a Swede that was rechambered to 6.5-06, no problems there either. They are made of strong steel, and are the equal of any modern factory ammo, or any handload that duplicates it. - dan
I've picked up a couple of ''left overs'' from Tradex-one in excellent condition-including weaver bases but a butchered bolt handle- a couple of hours work cutting, welding and polishing rectified that-now I have a very nice hunting rifle -for $240.The other one needed a bit of cosmetics too-but it had a Norma peep sight ,so don't overlook the left overs-especially if you are willing to add some sweat equity.I figure those swedes are about the best value on a hunting rifle on the market today and available in any caliber you would need in NorthAmerica[6.5x55 through to 9,3x62]
