Hey guys~dumb question...but do any of you pine for a gun you pretty much know you'll never own? lol For me, it has to be the STEN SMG. Ugly, crude, etc. but wow...the desire is sure there. I would probably be almost satisfied by a deactivated one, but being up over $600...I almost insist that a gun goes "bang". A full-auto STEN is never going to happen for me here in Canada, but once in a while I see reference to semi-auto/NR that were once available in Canada. Sometimes, it's someone asking a question about parts. I even spoke to guy out west years ago who told me there was one in his family, and it was a problematic gun. (Fired out of battery on one occasion) True/not true...I don't know. Anyhow, since I don't know when (if?) semi auto STEN guns were made, I can only assume well after WW2...which is why I'm asking the question in this forum.

Do they exist? How many were made? Any good? Value? Photos.......? :)

If you're selling, please don't PM me. At least until I see what the tax return looks like. lol

One thing that stinks is that the ATF tends to view open-bolt firearms as readily-convertible to fully-automatic, so new-manufacture STEN guns from the USA (if any) will likely be closed-bolt, and hopes for open-bolt STEN reproductions from Canada will also have to get passed the RCMP's "lab-techs"... :yingyang:

Last time I checked, you couldnt even write the name of the canadian company that built semi auto stens.

Lets try again! ########

Wow....

I have done research on building one for myself, but open bolt firearms are almost all prohibited up here (with the exception of some rare .22s) if I'm not mistaken. Any adaptation has to be closed bolt.

There are kits available for a closed bolt semi auto STEN look up Indianapolis Ordnance. Also video on you tube. Not a real STEN but looks pretty close

Best bet is to just buy a #### and click dewat, then buy a better, modern, non restricted PCC carbine of your choice.

^good advice, I've done the second part. :) Wish the wall hanger dewats were about 1/3 the price...I'd already have one. lol

I hear you.... I almost pulled the trigger on a longbranch #### and click last year just because but it's hard to rationalize the cost.
Our Replica gun laws are pretty silly and don't help.

I do believe you are right. The RCMP considers open bolt guns to be easily convertible to full auto (which to be fair, makes sense, most open bolt guns ARE easily convertible (just have to screw with the disconnector), and for that matter most of them were originally designed as full autos)

Would still be cool to have a STEN though...

There are quite a few prohibited guns, SMG or otherwise that that I would love to settle for a canadian made receiver, semi auto only, closed bolt bearing a passing resemblance with an 18.5" barrel for NR. The original would be lovely, and it may be blasphemy but boy would I be happy to have one. Even if it's just a shell with a whole different internal design. We need more 9mm rifle options anyway. Especially under $1000.

I disagree. Automobiles may be driven past the speed limit or while drunk, but it is the act which is sanctioned, not the automobile.

There are open bolt guns which are non-restricted. Voeres, Gevarms, the Argentinian ones.

C.308 - A Sten with a 18.5"+ barrel is a remarkably awkward, ungainly thing. The receiver is already quite long to start with, and with the long n-r barrel it is approaching ridiculous.

nbhms - The only semi-auto Sterling you're going to find is the Police Carbine.

What do you disagree with? The fact that open bolt guns are easy to make full auto?

I know there are a few 22lr that are open bolt and legal, but is there anything centrefire open bolt in Canada?

I have a deact and love it. Wish there was a company that made and sold a Cdn made NR sten. From what I understand there is a FRT for one. Tagged for interest hope we can get a group together to make something happen.

I disagree with the RCMP opinion/interpretation. Prohibiting something because criminal misuse is possible targets the object, not the criminal act.
