Modern railed scopes?

Hi all
I have a rifle that has claw mounts that came with an ancient old scope.
The scope has a rail underneath to which the claws mount.

I'm not a massive fan of this setup, because it mounts the scope higher than it needs to be.
The scope itself works but the glass is foggy and I would not mind replacing the scope.

My question is, what are my options short of getting rid of the claw bases completely?

Are there any modern scopes made with such a rail and who would sell them in Canada?
Is there any way to retain the claw bases and have a new, more modern ring system made?
I know that the claws require quite a lot of hand fitting but I assume that because I have the originals they could be copied?

What rifle, what scope, Why keep the 'claws' ? Just buy 'modern' unless the rifle is a sentimental or collector's piece?

It's just an old Mauser nothing special.
Yeah I may just get it drilled and tapped for regular scope mounts.
Probably the smart way to go about it

Someone that likes that sort of thing (claw mounts) will probably buy the set up from you. And you can just do something more conventional. That's the easiest path anyway.
