I have two 577 Snider's but this is my "shooter". It came to me with a badly cut barrel and stock but has an excellent bore. I shoot it a lot (400 or more rounds per season) but I have been having problems with the open sights (on any gun). I carved out this mount from some scrap iron and tested it today.

Good job. I like the things one can and does make from stuff laying around. And it appears to work decently. And in the end, I have to say, as long as you're happy with it!

It looks like 4 point contact and held together with 2 screws via the existing rear sight ramp and a grub screw as the 4th contact point. Smithless and reversible i presume. Very nice!

I have a small machine shop at home, retired now so I have time to pursue my own interests. It hinges on the sight mounting pin and the set screw is just snugged down enough to hold the saddle firmly on the barrel. I then put in one more pin just for good measure. I also put a small dab of Locktight under the saddle. I can put the original sight back on at any time if I wish.

Put 40 rounds through it yesterday and the new mount shows no signs of movement. Probably won't get much more shooting time in this year but I'll be busy this winter casting bullets for the next season.
