First off, yes it is another one of those posts. I like many others on these forums couldn't make my mind up as to whether or not I should build my own or buy one and leave it the way it is. So my identical twin and I did both.
I bought a a 22" m305, sent it off to user 45ACPKING (fantastic guy) and had him put on the following

  • 18.5 inch criterion Medium Chrome Lined Barrel
  • USGI Springfield Bolt with USGI guts
  • USGI Stock
  • Match Grade spring guide
  • CASM gen || scope mount
  • Bushnell mil dot 10x40 scope
Well the scope & mount I did myself.
Total cost: $1500ish +tax etc
My twin bought a heelstamped Polytech m305 with 22" barrel and a standard spring guide, it also has a slotted handguard.
Cost:$500
See for yourself our results from today with Hornady Steel match 155gr (once we make our own loads expect these to improve) at 100yds.
No back rest & a stool for a front rest

1.899MOA with iron's ($500 m14) (7 rounds)

and 1.61MOA (5rounds) which I'm going to call 1.31 as without my early pull came out to 1.31MOA ($1500 m14 with glass)

and sighting these suckers in at 50yds before we went to the 100yd mark

That's next on the purchase list :) cheek-weld was non existant to say the least. I don't want to drill into my stock (I'm not very handy) l, so I have to order one from down south.
 
Good stuff. I plan on getting an M14 myself when I get my permit, and I have been wondering about how to make it as accurate as possible, since it's probably going to be the only centerfire rifle I'm going to buy.

Hello all, I developed a 155gr load over this

weekend as I had good results with Hornady steel match 155gr. Its a .991 group, some precision guys at the range were saying to minus the caliber from the group size? Either way I think once I develop the load further I can beat the 1.5MOA challenge forsure.
This was a 5rd grouping
Please ignore the other holes, I brought a female friend shooting & she took potshots at the target once I was done.

Yes Sir that's fine shooting, got yourself a nice .683 group there.
Perfectly acceptable to measure from centre to centre instead of edge to edge.
Your going to be all over the challenge :)
