Modifing chokes on a Baikal

I was wondering if it was possible to modify the chokes on my O/U from:

Bottom: Mod to IC
Top: Full to mod

The reason I would change both (not just full to IC) is that I would like to keep the sequence (first trigger for close target, second for further target).

Is that an easy procedure? In case you are wondering, the Bbls are too thin to install tubes.

Also, the barrels are chrome lined. Could they be "recoated" after the procedure if at all possible?

Oh, and I know, it's cheap shotgun but I don't mind investing a few pennies...

No hope.

An unrealistic idea, based on unrealistic premises.

Practice shooting it the way it is, and save your "few pennies" to buy a gun with interchangeable chokes.

To clarify, after a nights sleep for me.

Figure $80-100 per tube to do anything at all to them. The hard chrome makes them a bugger to work, and requires carbide reamers to work with them. Hones can be used, but what cost is saved on tooling, is lost on hours of labor.

There is a possibility of fitting thin choke tubes, but again, special tooling. Figure the same $80-100 per tube, and add in the cost of the choke tubes at $30-50 each.

If the triggers are built in a manner that allows them to be swapped around, they may be able to be. If you cannot do the work, figure an hour minimum, maybe a fair bit more, at shop labor rates. I'm thinking probably not, but have not played with a Baikal O/U.

All told, you are hundreds of dollars ahead, to start getting used to it the way it is.

The other choice is to flog it for what it's worth, and use the proceeds, plus what you would have had to spend, to buy a shotgun that can do what you want, which is to say, a double, already fitted with choke tubes, that you can set up to your tastes.

Thanks for your constructive reply Trev. I went out to the range today and shot quite a few rounds, I think I'll just try and get used to it.

If it is a 12 gauge Baikal the chokes can be opened to IC and Mod. at Reliable Gun in Vancouver. They have carbide reamers and have opened quite a few chrome lined barrels with good results. Removing the chrome does not affect barrel life to any extent. As a matter of interest, many chromed barrels are quite rough.

Hmmmm, interesting. I hadn't thought of that. I shot a BT-99 today with a fibre optic bead, it was quite nice.
