I recently acquired a coachgun, and was curious as to options regarding an optic mount.

As you can see from the stock pic, (looks like what I have) there's just a smooth (sort of) strip of metal there. What are the options here? Have any of you guys come up with ideas on how to get an optic on there without professional service? Just morbid curiosity so far.... would be interested in a reflex sight maybe....

That strip is soldered in place. I'm not sure it's a great idea to go and try adding a mount to it. Also the metal that strip is made from ain't that thick or tough. So it won't take drilling and threading well at all. It's sort of a "[" shape but on it's side so the opening is down to the barrels. It only looks solid at the ends because they fill in the opening.

I'm also wondering why you want to put an red dot or whatever onto a shotgun. Seems a bit of a stretch.

You don't aim a SXS gun like a rifle, you point it. It's a dynamic action, a moving target and moving gun. If you have the proper grip, mounting skills and you keep your eye on the target (not the rib, or the bead)your forehand will point the gun straight at the target. Robert Churchill (et al) discuss this this technique in their game shooting books.

sell it and buy a Stoeger Double Defense
it comes with rails
