modify defender

I am wondering if I can modify the defender 18'' barrel into modify choke which means I can shoot slug/ steel shot for hunting ? and how much will it cost approximately or is it a good idea ? any suggestion would be appreciated,thanks !!!

Im not an expert on this, but my smith backhome always discourage me from doing it. better to get a new bbl.

buy the 18" slug barrel, keep the choked barrel for upland birds or skeet.

I had one a while back that I had modified to use screw-in chokes, so I could use the existing chokes from my other Remington shotguns. The conversion will set you back about $125.00, and you can use any choke you wish.

With the defender (and I'm assuming you have the 8-shot version) you are limited in barrels as the standard 18 inch cylinder bore is the only one available. If you have the 5-shot version, it is better to just go to a new barrel with screw-in chokes, and leave the original for slugs and buckshot.
