Modifying a Remington Model 7 to make it lighter

Stocks are a controlled item by US Law and require import/export licensing to cross the border in either direction. You can not just buy one in the US and drive back with it legally. You can't pick it up in the US and drive back with it. You can't have a friend in the US bring it up. Import/export licensing is required in advance.

I'm not sold on ultra-lightweight rifles. They don't always handle well and shooting from the bench can be a bit weird. Anything aorund +/- 7lbs is plenty light enough for me. YMMV.
I had this 700 358Win in a Wildcat and it came in at 6.5lbs scoped, which is about as light as I'd like for this chambering. I swapped out the WC stock for a heavier McMillan and like the rifle a better at a bit over 7lbs. No knock agin the WC, but I think I will use it on a 7/08 instead.

There is a rifle on this site, not sure if it's in the EE, but the rear wood sides had been inletted

If this style doesn't suit yer tastie buds, then take the recoil pad off and remove some of the
filler in there.

As in building a house, where cost is calculated at $$$/sq.ft, shaving weight from your rifle can be expressed in $$$/ounce. With a house, a glass sunroom might run you $300/sq.ft... a bonus room over the garage only $50/sq.ft. Extrapolate the analogy for your rifle... the stock, sling and scope are the "bonus room"... the bolt, barrel, and receiver are the "sunroom." The mounts are in between the two... lets call them the bathroom...
Personally, I would just stick with the bonus room items and call it a day.

- swapped out the scope for a VariX-III 1.5-5X20
- new lightweight B&C stock
- Al Gentry lightweight bases and rings
- removed front sight
As you see it it weighs 6.54 lbs.....
Thats a nice rifle BUT that B&C stock weight nearly 10 oz Heavier then a Wildcat - i just got a Wildcat and its 17 oz so i think i can have it on the gun at about 20 oz or less ! just sayin as you were lightning it up - RJ

Yes, the mounts are very nice. I did have the 4th D&T.
This stock is just under 2lbs. Not as light as the Wildcat, but 1/3 the cost and got me to a reasonable weight along with the other improvements.

Very well done... I would call it a day... IME Ultra light stocks destroy the feel and balance.

One way I have found to make a rifle feel light...
Is arm curls with a set of barbells in the off season.
Cheaper than a Ti build.
