Modifying the BHO device for Magwedge SKS Adapter

Hey guys,
I am installing a Magwedge G9 magazine adapter. I read the instructions for installation, and I get to the step that involves removing .2" of material from the bottom of the nose. I've watched several videos, and none showed this step. Has anyone been able to install their adapter without modifying the BHO device? The pictures on the installation thread here on CGN weren't very helpful to me. The width of the BHO device nose is about .288" wide, and if I remove .2" that'll only leave me .088" left behind. That sounds kinda thin to me but I didn't design it. Thoughts?

I have done the hical ones and the bolt hold open is the last thing I do .I remove just enough to let the mag fit in and not catch the cartridge .They seem to differ from one sks to the next

.2" definitely seems like too much. I have also done a hical adapter. You need to take just enough off so the magazine fits in to the well, yet still holds open the bolt on an empty mag. You will have to do many test fits in between filing a bit off at a time. My finished BHO nose is something like .26-.27" finished (couldn't quite get the caliber in there with out taking it all apart) so I don't think you want to go down to .088

I'm currently finishing up my Hical, stuck on the BHO too. I have seen a couple close-up and I would say every one is unique due to the nature of the project + differences between rifles.

My advice would be to take suggestions with a grain of salt

You looked at post 4 in this thread?

It is the original inventor, Marcus that states .2 inches.

I posted something different as l wanted to show as clearly as possible what we did to make the conversion work. Let me know if you saw the pics in that thread including the one with red marks showing cut areas. Of course if your BHO is different you will have to reason out what parts to modify and proceed with caution.

I have the adapter installed. I only had to remove about .020" from the nose to make it work. I also filed down the sides slightly. I cycled some snap caps through it by hand, and everything seems to work fine. I did look at the pictures in post #4, but the picture of the finished part does not appear to have .200" of material removed so I was a little confused. I have yet to try it with live rounds but hopefully I will soon.

maybe we are talking about different parts

To my understanding the nose is the part sticking out from the BHO and if I recall correctly the part that needed the most adjustment was the underside of that part.

In checking my notes on the conversion (and as these rifles vary a great deal please take with a large grain of salt) I see that the nose ended up measuring 5.7 mm top to bottom and 6 mm front to back (or deep if you prefer). For some reason I never bothered to record how much was removed from the bottom so I cannot comment more on it without disassembling the whole shebang.

I suspect we had run into different shapes of BHO and we took the measurements that would work with either type we saw.

In any event removing just enough material to allow the BHO to function seems a sensible way to proceed.
