Modifying the Remington 700 Magpul Mag Conversion kit to fit any 700 stock...

I was looking around to see if this is possible and found one review where a guy said he had installed a Magpul mag conversion kit into an average 700 stock. He mentioned modification, but no real details. Has anyone on here done this? Can anyone give any real insight on how difficult this would be? Or is it simply a bad idea?

I have a 700P with the HS precision stock, and this kit seems like the best value for money, as it's a solid build and comes with a 5round mag (easily converted to 6) for about $120 after tax.

Have a look at my post here:

Understand that my new LG G3 phone wiped out a bunch of photos on Photobucket Library and I had to start all again with the last half of the project. Have no fear. I have to modify another SPS black tupperware stock in the coming weeks.

I dunno about modifying a very nice HS Precision stock, but the SPS stocks can only be improved by doing this operation. Just my 2 cents worth! :)

Hope this helps!

I did this with my 5R in the factory HS stock. I had a lot of material to remove but it turned out pretty clean. If I were to give you some advice, take it slow and check frequently so that you aren't removing material in the wrong places.

I was kind of hoping that the Magpul insert itself could be modified without doing anything to my stock. I guess that's an impossibility given the dimensions.

Thanks for posting that TacticalTeacher, even if I don't do this to my 700P, I will definitely do it to a build in the future (like an SPS tactical).

Do both of you like the Magpul mag conversion kit? Would you definitely buy it again?

Easy 9mm - Would you mind posting pictures of yours? As our stocks are very similar, it would probably be the same process and end result.

Mine looks about the same as Barney's (maybe a little cleaner). You can see that it protrudes a little below the stock. Functions perfectly with the Mapul mag (and it fits my MTD and Accurate Mag from my 223 for those considering it for 223)

Would I do it again? I'm not sure. Like most Magpul products, great price and great quality as far as polymer goes, but I think something stronger would be better suited with the HS stock. Look at what PTG has to offer, I think it would be better suited to the HS stock.

Anyway, here are some pictures.

Very nice and clean there, Easy9mm... I like it. I'm using my Milwaukee 12V hand drill and circular rasp pieces to keep it in line with the uber cheap simplistic approach. I would not do this approach to a fine HS or BC or McMillan or Manners stock.

Remmy SPS Tupperware? You can only make them better ! ha ha ha ha ha

Cheers,
Barney
