Modifying Winchester 500x air rifles for high velocity? Technical and legal issues?

Before getting our PALs I bought a pair of 495 fps Winchester 500x air rifles for me and my wife.

Now that we have our PALs, and after reviewing bylaws don't really see any benefit to keeping our non PAL air rifles because anywhere we can legally shoot them we can shoot our real guns. I was thinking of modifying these air rifles so they're high velocity. When we first bought these a few years ago I saw a thread mentioning that they're essentially 'de-tuned' 1000fps guns and with a little tinkering could be brought up to speed.

Unfortunately, I can't find that information now.

Does anyone have any information on doing this, as well as any legal issues we may face in doing so? Also, are there any benefits of keeping these things as non PAL rifles?

If you need a more powerful pellet gun, get one. The sub 500s can be worked over and tuned up into some real pleasurable shooters, search for mods and repairs for your model on Canadian Air Gun Forum. There is a lot of good info there , it worked on a couple of my low powered rifles, produced smooth accurate shooters that you can shoot for hours.

The only difference was the piston on the Win 800 + 500 models ....and the mainspring....Turkish I recall rebranded Hatsans. 125 .......Harold
