3Gunners,

For those of you who are running newer Benellis and that have modified your bolt to accommodate ghost loading, did you do it yourself or was there a gunsmith you used? Did you fill in the slot or did you remove material from the rear edge of the slot instead?

Trying to decide what route I'm going to go.

While I'm at it... how did you do your lifter?

I did the filing down of the notch edge method.
Bolt mod took me all of 7 seconds with a dremel... had I used a hand file it may have taken 20 seconds. Incredibly easy to do. Only a smidgen of material need be removed.
If you know how to pull the bolt out of your gun... You don't need a "gunsmith" to do this mod.

Filling the slot "may" cause problems... I read that if not done properly, whatever you use to as "fill" may come loose and jam up the innards of your gun... Not catastrphic, but... who needs the hassle.

As for the lifter... I just ordered one from Crums, ($65USD) but again... If you can weld/braze it's an easy job. I've never welded so... Easiest was to just buy one already done.

You can also send your lifter to Crums and he'll mod it and return... $45USD plus postage

How much material did you remove?

If I was going to fill it, I'd fill it with a TIG welder and then polish it smooth. From what I have read it's the people filling with JB Weld that are having the problems you mention.

Unfortunately he doesn't have lifters in stock right now, much less for a Super Black Eagle 2. I think it's probably too much hassle to ship one over the border and then back again so I'm probably going to order a replacement lifter and get it TIG welded and polished. Getting it welded up is pretty simple... just not sure how they are tuned afterwards.

Like I said... a smidgen.
All you need to do is flaten out the angle/edge of that notch a bit... Just smoothing it a little... taking the sharp edge off will do.
Literally... I touched the flat side of a cut off wheel to it three or four times for like a second each time. That's it.

As far as "tuning"... I didn't "tune" anything and the lifter functions fine.

I didn't want to ship mine, so I called Remington and ordered a new one and had them ship a carrier for my VMT directly to C-rums. Wondering if you could do the same for Benelli? Also, he doesn't ship directly to Canada, not sure if that would be a problem for you.

Progress update...

Filing your bolt... don't bother. The material the bolt is made of is very hard and you will get nowhere. I tried this first because I was paranoid and wanted to go slow. Well it went slow alright... GLACIALLY SLOW

Went with the Dremel method and it worked fine. I didn't want to take off more material than I had to so there was some trial and error involved, but it was no big deal.

As far as lifters, I just ordered a pair directly from Stoeger Canada for cheap, which I will get welded up. No cross-border paperwork BS and the price was right... $35 a piece and shipping in the single digits. I ordered two just in case one get buggered up in the process. If all works out then I'll have spares just in case something weird happens (or I buy a backup gun down the road).

Now get out those files and go at your loading port...

I'm debating whether I'm going to do that or not. I haven't practiced with it since the lifter bit me. I'm going to see what I think of it once I do the lifter mod. The SBE II has a pretty big loading port to start with.

JB welded my slot, SBE II. Years ago. No issues, roughly 10 flats a year sporting clays plus lots of hunting.

Prep'd it good (brakeclean) I'll tig it if it ever fails, but I've pretty much forgot about it till I saw this.
