We definitely try to work with folks who want to dip their toes in a see what it is about. We all understand what a huge investment it can be to fully kit up when you don't have everything and aren't sure what it is all about.
4 Lar mags will leave you a little limited on most of our stages. We typically want shooters to come with 50 rounds, but our round counts are about 35. It is really easy to loan out a mag though. As far as the pistol, we generally need 4 to complete, this may be tougher as pistols aren't quite so universal. If you have a Glock or M&P, it wont be a problem likely. We can work with you to get you set up and shooting. For you first match running from pockets is acceptable, we do ask that if you wish to continue with it, you find a secure method of transporting your ammunition. This is as much a safety concern as it is a speed an convenience thing for the rest of the participants. We do run slings on carbine for lots of our stages, but not all. If you don't have one or are not comfortable using one safely, we do not insist that one is used. There are a lot of people who just are comfortable slinging a rifle and transitioning to a pistol and back again. We do try to integrate the transitions and reholstering pistols. We gauge that level based on shooter abilities as well though.
We aren't necessarily the most competitive league around, we try to focus on creating challenging Courses of Fire (COF) that will push our shooters to develop additional skills and have fun while doing it. It is meant to be a dynamic and challenging environment that a little bit of friendly competition develops out of. For those with a competitive nature, we get competitive. Those without, just come and have a blast and get to develop skills in a new environment.
We also hold the Skills and Drills nights once a month for those who can attend who want to practice the things that they aren't comfortable with yet.
We would love to see you and your son come out. We really want to encourage our club to be the family league. Don't worry too much about your kit for the first match. We will help you out and if you enjoy it, several of us can steer you towards some economical purchases to get you started.
Cheers
Shane
PS
Im in Leduc too if you want to meet for a coffee to discuss before the season starts.
Shane. I will take you up on your offer. At this point I am not even sure what question to ask as I am totally noob on 3 gun. Other than some youtubing that's pretty much all the exposure I have on the subject. Does Sunday morning coffee work for you? Say around 9:00 at the Leduc Common Timmy's?I work in the city and don't get back until 6:30 usually. Weekend would be best, but you are more than welcome.
