Any suggestions for moisturizing/conditioning a dried leather milsurp sling?

Mink oil works well I have found

Ive heard Picards Antique leather paste, but some people recommend it for old slings and others don't because it leaves a residue.

I have seen Pecards and Obenauf's recommended for those very dry K31 slings though I haven't tried either.

Neatsfoot oil should work well. Use pure product that is not mixed with petroleum products or other materials. Multiple applications over time.

Neatsfoot oil in some people's opinion can ruin the leather over time.

[The majority of leather dressings are based on tallow or neatsfoot oil. Tallow, even kidney fat, contains salts which build up with repeated dressing and attack the leather fibres. Neatsfoot oil compounds, long recognized for damage to sewing, also weaken and blacken the leather. Both these animal fats provide a culture for the growth of bacteria and fungus, and turn rancid, resulting in further attack on the leather. The more liquid formulations also evaporate quickly, leaving the leather dry and open to rapid deterioration by oxidation and mechanical break down. ]

I have had a very good experience with Dr. Jackson's Hide Rejuvinator. Used on everything from my old P1907 scabbard to a new P1907 Garand Sling and everything in between.

Not too bad at all really (see below).

I think with a little attention it will look quite smart.

Go to you're local CO-Op and buy saddle soap.

I have tried a couple of products including Lexol and mink oil but the best of all was Fluid Film. Nothing even comes close to this stuff. It is made from sheeps wool, contains no petroleum distillates, is 100% natural and its available at Canadian Tire in an aerosol can. I use it on everything from leather to metal to wood and it is now the only stuff that I use. I also find that and a single can goes a long long way.
