I bedded a couple of rifles this week. I used Devon F Aluminum putty. Wonderful stuff to work with. My 3 pound can is marked "March 2010" and it still works just fine.

I used this mold release:

I like the spray release because it is fast and easy to apply and it gets into everything.

And when I took the action bolts off the rifle popped right out of the action. Good stuff.

I don't know where I got this from. I used up a can of mold release from another maker over the last 15 years, and it worked great, too.

When you bed a rifle the last think you want is any failure of the release.

Johnsons Paste Wax works very well for me... an old Canadian company but you can't buy it in Canada anymore... I got mine on a trip down to the US. A large tin about $6. It will last about 20 years...

For us Military types.... Kiwi Neutral Shoe Polish from Canex $3.99... just like Johnson’s Paste Wax... last one helluva long time.

Cheers, Barney

This ^^^ And you can use it on for its original purpose, too. How versatile is that? (Although it'll only last about 10 years then.) Must have bought mine in the US as the label in only in one official language. On a lark I looked it up on Amazon.ca. Don't know whether to laugh or cry: "SC Johnson Fine Wood Paste Wax, 16 oz-2 pk. I New from Cdn. $69.99" WTF?!?!?!?!?!? It's $23.70 for 2 on Amazon US- still kinda pricey, given that Home Depot US has it for $6.47.)

Turtle wax for me! Only used it once but it did a fine job!

Is that spray silicone based? When trying to find something to use when I was gathering supplies Google told me silicone based mold releases were no good for this job? Or is that Hogwash?

The one in the picture isn't but the other mentioned at acklands is.

Tag.

I have a rifle thats ready for bedding coming up...

Of course I'll be doing the zero stress bedding thing...

My friend has been using automotive boundo for bedding since its easy to work with,,, and it's also easy to grind down """if""" it needs replacing or a work-over since time and the stresses of continues recoil wears it down...

Slowly over time that is...

Our rifles actions are very difficult to pull out of the stocks when it's done right,,, its all most like they are Glued into the stock even though there not,,, after a few years they get easier to pull...

I'm sure that the day will come that my other 3 rifle bedding jobs will need a re'doo...

Thx for the thread as I'll follow along...

Cheers from the North

Minwax paste wax, work perfectly, and about $10 a can I think. Had the same can for years and bedded a pile of rifles with it. I’m sure I’ll have the same can for a lot more years.

Yup, I will have to make sure I get my bud to pick a can up for me. He's in California for the winter.

If that isn't in your future, KIWI paste type shoe polish works just as well but it goes on a bit thinner than Johnson's Paste Wax.

I buy epoxy mould release from KBC. It is an aerosol and works with Acraglass Jell and 3M Plastic Steel.

Wait - what?? KBC carries a mold release designed for Epoxies??? I took quick peek on the website and did not see - can you please share a link/brand/part #?

-thanks!

Sean- the one in the OP's pic says 'ideal for epoxy use' , What I saw for KBC product # 1-125-3470, Special Order though.
