I went into a tactical gear store today to buy a load bearing vest and some mag pouches and was told that a 30rnd PMag will not fit into the Eagle Industries M4 mag pouch. But arent the M4/M16/AR15 all about the same thing as far as mags are concerned? I wanted a triple pouch that would hold six in two rows of three and two singles that would hold two.

PMags are slightly larger in overall size than USGI/STANAG metal mags. Your PMags will likely fit in the pouches, but will undoubtably have to be crammed in. Taking them out will most fun.
It'll still work fine, but you'll have to get in a habit of placing them in upside down. Next time you go to that store, bring a PMag along and test it out.
