For anyone moly coating their own, what wax do you use after coating. I've read to use Carnauba but why that? Can I use Bees wax, if not, why not?

The wax needs to be able to dry hard. Bees wax will stay soft if you add anything to it.

I have used Kiwi shoe polish to coat the bullets with some success though and it dries hard.

I think you will be disappointed with Moly coating after a while. Yes, it will give you a lot more bullets down the bore between cleanings but the bore has to be cured by shooting a dozen or so bullets before it settles down for competitive purposes. It is also a bugger to clean up properly. Way to much downside and not enough up side.

It's been a few years since I researched moly coating but I also seem to recall that the moly is hygroscopic (attracts water) so you run the risk of barrel rust if you don't clean the barrel well after shooting moly bullets. I could be wrong as it's been a while since I read up on this so I do stand to be corrected. All in all for the small gain in velocity and a few extra rounds you get to shoot between cleanings it just doesn't seem worth it. On the plus side I coated some Remington Golden Sabre pistol bullets with moly and they were the coolest looking things you ever saw. :cool:Plus I'm sure they would easily kill vampires.

I don't use wax on my molly'd bullets. The wax is only there to prevent the black powder getting on your fingers. I don't need nor want wax buildup in my bore's.

The issue of moly attracting water is real but it is easy to prevent by running a wet patch or two down the bore after shooting. No need for a full clean, just a bit of oil to coat the bore.
