I watched a YouTube video and the guy was saying that a mono pod at the rear can affect accuracy when used in conjunction with a bipod. The reason being, the rifle's recoil will be different depending on the surface, ie sand, clay, rock, concrete etc.
Has anyone here experienced this?

Monopods are generally designed for long observation periods behind the rifle, not so much shooting.

A rear bag will be much more effective then a mono-pod for shooting. More effective for managing recoil and more effective for managing small elevation changes.

I'm trying to recall if I've ever shot off a mono-pod. If I have, it was a long time ago. Can't see any reason to pick one over a rear bag. Not a single reason.

You want the rear of the rifle to track straight backwards, generally into your shoulder. Putting a mono-pod on your rifle is akin to a rubber door stopper on a door. Not very conducive to allowing the door (or a rifle) to track straight back, allowing proper mitigation of recoil.

Instead, get a rear bag that properly conforms to your butt stock, that allows the rifle to track straight back, provide stability while also allowing for vertical adjustment via squeezing the bag.

As mentioned, a rear bag is the way to go. Also, I've found using my balled left fist under the butt stock really helps and is almost as good if a rear bag is not available. Just by squeezing your fist more or less you can fine adjust your elevation, just like with a rear bag.

I shot with a monopod the first precision rifle I put together, took 3 shots with it and it had dug deep into the dirt I was on. Made it so hard to get back on target IMO. After that, rear bag all day every day. I love my waxed fortune cookie and Serachin.

Years ago, I thought that a rear monopod would be the way to go. I wrote (it was that long ago) to the Harris Bipod people with a suggestion for a folding monopod that would attach to a swivel stud. They got back to me, explaining that it didn't work.
