I`m curious about peoples experiences with monopods

I`m trying to get away from the rear bag as I don`t find it very easy to adjust and as my Ruger Precision has a picatinny rail on the rear it should be relatively simple to fit a monopod

I also have a HK SL8 that has the swivel stud on the rear which seems to be an option for mounting a monopod too also

Looking at the options Accu-Shot seems to have both styles covered and these are available via Wolverine

When I read some of the reviews most are very positive however some say they are a bit wobbly and I`ve even came across a couple where the aluminum part snapped (same place on both)

Anyone have any personal experience with these or any other type of monopod that they could recommend/not recommend?

There`s more choice in the US but I imagine purchasing there isn’t an option because of ITAR? (Brownells & Midway have a decent selection)

I've owned both accu-shot and the TNA knock offs. All of mine have been the type that attach to a pic rail on the butt stock.

Both have held up well, though fit and finish on the genuine articles are better. I like them as they can hard mount to the rifle and are relatively light. They are less stable when extended, so you need to take your bipod height into account.

I found I needed a couple lengths to cover the different shooting positions I use. That being said, if I have the option I'd still shoot off a sandbag with a squeeze bag for fine adjustment if I was shooting from a fixed position and wanted maximum stability (load development, bench shooting etc).

What does that look like?

I just set one of these on top of an actual sandbag for the rear. Squeeze to adjust up or down. What I like would be the "small" bag. Usually I run a Harris up front on a rota- pod.
