MONOPODS: Yea or Nay?

The problem with a monopod is you have to reset and dial it in again after each shot. Sand socks suck as well.

Get a nice rearbag like a TAB or similar that you can squeeze and get quick precise adjustments from.

I got one built into my rifle. Only time I use it is when I remove the buttpad. Get a nice rear bag like jsa tactical, support Canadian manufacturers.

I like the mono pod , for me it shines for gopher hunting etc with a bipod. I hold it like a handle with it set loose and angle the monopod to target height I use my hand as part of the support .and adjustment. Also for shooting prone in the field it's with the gun and quick and handy to set up
Kind of a cross between freehand and bench for truck hoods

I have a Remingation 700 in an AICS chassis with monopod. It is fine on a hard flat surface like a bench but not so much on anything that is not hard and flat, such as dirt, grass, gravel, etc., because the monopod tends to dig in and slide around. For this type of shooting a bag is better.

The AICS doesn't have a corporal line and the folded monopod is too thick for the "bunny bags", a plain bean bag is better.

Where are you guys ordering your JSA tatical stuff from. I found their Facebook page do u order right from their or are any of the sponsor sites selling their stuff ?

DS Tactical in New Westminster, Wanstalls in Maple Ridge, and Lockhart Tactical on Vancouver Island sell our bags
Or you can hit me up with a PM...... ;)

"Meh..." I've tried numerous bags over the years--old climbing rucksacs, etc, but by the time I'd adjust around all the lumpy bits inside, and get settled in, the target would get bored and move on.
Besides, a bag is just one more bit of equipment that needs to be accounted for, and carried around.
That's partly why I'm thinking about having a monopod that's (semi) permanently attached to the heel. Seems like it'd be 'always there' and quicker to set up than a shapeless bag?
For the present I'm punching paper from a benchtop at the range.

Here's a page from the DS Tactical site: Is there a bag here you could
suggest as an example?

Personally,
I find that squeeze bags provide better support and stability better than monopoly. I use monopod for convenient hold for my left hand.

I also added the bean bag rider to my cadex butstock.

Did not see any top shooters using monopods in competition. What does it mean? Not sure but usually top shooters know what works and what doesn't.

+1 on JDA tactical. I use the large rear bag. IT's good. Only thing is that you can't open it to add or remove volume. SO I use another small one that I can micro adjust putting it on top of the big one.

Cheers.

This is really a personal preference kind of decision. It really comes down to which option you prefer based on the feel you like better for a rear rifle rest. If you had to chose one... I would suggest you chose a rear bag. Not because that's my personal choice but because it is a much cheaper option. :)

Also even guys that run a monopod will have a rear bag with them for the other uses.

Cheers,
