I'm planing on going for a moose hunt and wondering what caliber is better suited for moose out of a .280 rem and a .308 win and maybe also what bullet have you had luck with please ?

Depending on distance you are planning to shoot. Short range, bring .308. Longer range, .280

Bring both and use one for back-up. :) Both will do the job.

If you bring the .280, you'll be in good shape. If you bring the .308, you'll be in good shape. Be sure your rifle is equipped with a low power fixed or variable power scope, preferably one with a reticle that is visible against a dark background in subdued light. The rifle that ensures quick handling, that you can shoot well from 25 out to 300 yards, is the one you want if still hunting. NL-Hunter's suggestion of taking both rifles has merit.

As for bullet choice, honesty compels me to say that rail cars full of moose have succumbed to factory ammo loaded with simple cup and core bullets, fired from rifles chambered for moderate cartridges like the .280 and the .308. If that suits you, then Hornady Interlocks are as good as anything. But if the choice of a high quality bullet gives you a warm comforting feeling, the .284/160 gr and .308/180 gr Partitions and Accubonds are proven performers.

For bullet selection, I've become a big fan of copper solid projectiles like Barnes TTSX and Hornady GMX. The BC and long range performance is good, and they stay together for deep penetration on big game like Moose and Bear.

Either! 308 in 165 gr bullet like a Nolser partition. 280 with a 140 TSX will do the job. I've taken moose with a 165 gr Gameking from my 308 and elk with a 140 TSX in a 7mm Mauser AI, so should have no problem with a moose using a 280. Good luck!

Best of luck moose hunting here... populations are abysmal.

Yes, if all the reports are correct you can leave both at home and take something for upland birds - unfortunately you are unlikely to see a moose...

But as others have stated - both are more than enough for Moose...

Toss a coin!!!!! Either one with factory ammo are quite capable.
As mentioned, good luck finding moose in this province. Awfully slim pickins!!!!
