I have been invited to go hunting at my sister and husband's place! My brother in-law has 3 other bothers and they all own land beside each other and have lots of moose and those little red deer running around, and none of them hunt, except now my sister wants to, she just renewed her r-pal. She is retired, lol.

This land has not been hunted in over a generation plus!

What I need to know is if I need to go through a outfitter, or if I can party hunt with my sister. Once I get there, the only cost to me is the gas to get there.

Has anyone hunted in Quebec before? I have tried in vain to find stuff in english, and I am stumped. I know some of the rules for fishing out there are just nuts so much for that, lol.

Baie-des-sables is in zone 1 near Matane. The moose season for 2010 is october 16 to october 24 and you are allowed only bull or calf. There must be two hunters per animal harvested. As a non resident you do not need any québec hunting certificate but must pay the non resident tag. Your sister must acquire the québec hunting certificate and purchase the moose tag for resident. The two of you together will than be allowed to harvest one and only one buck or one and only one calf in 2010 and share in the meat
The whitw tail deer season for rifle in zone 1 is octoner 30 to november 5, 2010.

I posted this on an earlier tread:

Moose hunting in Québec.
343$ per moose tag for a non-resident (55$ for resident) no draw (with antlers) but you need 2 tags per moose (in some place up to 4).

You need to buy the tag before the season open otherwise it's not valid (and they'll usually sell it tou you anyway and charge you with poaching...) and it's valid only for one hunting zone.

From NB Zone 1 is all Gaspésie up to road 132 (Mont-Joli to Matapedia)

West of that is zone 2 (up to La Pocatière)

If my eyes where still good as they used to be, I would have shot off the front paws and then had a cup of tea, then do him in. They are nothing but garbage, pieces of fur crap! The whole gene pool should be wiped out on those things! This is bushwackers opinion on coyotes, should he even be hunting?

Bushwhacker's certainly not alone in feeling that way about 'yotes. I think it's important to hunt 'em to help balance out numbers (and to protect livestock etc of course) but I think eradication's a little extreme. They gotta eat the old and the sick for us so we can keep the healthy, tasty animals.

Bring a couple of extra bucks so you can take back some seafood with you. Although I'd avoid the "shrimp poutine" - gaaack!

On the upside the Matane area is absolutely crawling with moose.

Baie-des-Sables is right on the edge of zone 1. I believe the area has an average of 10 moose per 10 square kms. In that zone in 2009 there were 4148 moose harvested. If you add the moose harvested in the wildlife reserves in the zone the total climbs to 5461 moose. The total numbers for the whole province in 2009 was 27106 so zone 1 really kicks ass. Enjoy your stay in our beautiful province!:)
