I am a senior ,my hunting partner isn't.We drew an'Any Bull' tag under a the 'shared hunt' rules( either party can shoot 'any bull' )

This area has a GOS 'seniors'/youth 'season for calves and also 'spike/fork immatures'.If I as a senior shoot a calf,my licence is now filled( 1 moose)

Question: since our 'Shared Hunt LEH' allows only ONE bull between us,and my tag is now filled, does this preclude my hunting partner from taking a mature Bull under our 'shared hunt' LEH ? If he shoots a bull, filling his tag,can I still take a calf?

This is an example of some of the complexities of game laws, and why you have to check...what you THINK is not neccesarily FACT,and you don't want to have an animal down thinking it was legal and trying to explain that to a CO....

No, it does not preclude your buddy from taking the LEH bull.

The calf you hypothetically take has no effect on the shared LEH except that you, of course, cannot take an LEH bull due to the 1 moose per person provincial limit.

By the way, if you do get the hypothetical calf and you still want to tag along with your buddy during the bull LEH, make sure you've got a tag for something else open at that time. If it is perceived that you are "moose hunting" when you already have a cancelled moose tag, they could nab you for it.

Yup,that's right, the LEH 'any bull' authorization does not preclude the hunting partner from filling his tag under the 'shared hunt' rules if one party takes an animal under GOS. Not sure on carrying another species tag, presumably you could hunt for an animal not requiring a tag

Hmmmm...... Not sure if this is the same thing as I don't think there's a senior hunt where we have the LEH draw. What if you have a shared moose any bull LEH tag and there is a GOS on immatures and a calf season taking place during your LEH hunt does the same situation apply as above. One hunter could take a big bull the other could take an immature or a calf.
Thanks

That's my understanding after talking to the CO, the LEH does not preclude you from participating in the GOS,and if one of the parties in a 'shared hunt' harvests a moose under GOS rules, the other party can still fill their LEH tag.

The rules are somewhat ambiguous ,so checking with the CO is a good idea ,I was actually surprised at the answer,I thought if I took a calf, the 'one bull shared LEH ' tag would preclude my partner from taking a bull. Not so....that means if one of us takes an 'immature' under GOS ,the other can still take 'any bull'under our LEH tag...two moose, one of which is 'any bull'

The rules are simple- you can take one animal as per your authorization

Anything in GOS is still open

You can not exceed your bag limit by using an LEH

Hi Gatehouse
Not trying to make it more complicated, maybe I'm just reading into it too much. So our Shared LEH draw is any bull, either one of us can pull the trigger. But like mentioned there may be a GOS calf season and or immature in the same time frame as our any bull LEH . So let's say we have one mature bull down, is that not one bull moose between the two of us and that's your limit. I need to get this sorted out.
Thanks

The species license you purchase is not an LEH specific species license.

Once your partner kills the LEH bull, he has filled his moose quota for the year.

You have not filled your quota for the year, so may continue to participate in any GOS moose hunting season.

If you kill the LEH bull, your moose hunting is over for the year.

Gatehouse has got it right...the limit is one (1) moose...the LEH could be for 'any bull',a cow or calf any one of which fills your tag
