I don't get this NWFD draw system. It sure seems to me like there are a lot of animals in NWFD, nothing but complaints from locals I know. But the whole system is draw???

How does 26000 compare with other provinces?
When I looked at a Newfoundland moose hunt about three years ago, the hunter success rate for bulls was closing in on 100% for the area (Great Northern Peninsula) that I was considering. But the cost of the hunt for a non-resident was prohibitive,so I did not go.
My "island" sources told me that the 100% figure was the DECLARED success rate, and it was probabaly double that. As spatey notes, poaching is a major factor...

I was talking to dad the other night and he said the moose are everywhere. He's working in the woods now and has mine picked out for this fall. Yesterday morning alone he saw 32 and that was only 1/2 hour drive outside of town.
I've got my license for Area 34 Bay de Verde. My favorite hunting area. Can't wait.

The real "monster" bulls are relatively rare, but I've shot bulls with antler spreads in the mid-40" to 50+". Average size bulls aren't a problem to take. Often you can get combo hunts for Moose/Black Bear/Caribou that are half what you'd pay up north or in Alaska, etc...

I checked with several outfitters, but the only person whose name I (think I) remember is Ida Patey or similar. All the hunts were in the three thousand bucks a week range, some more than that like five grand. I know that lots of folks might think this is a bargoon, but it was (and is) too rich for my blood........Most of their clients at that time were Americans. One outfitter would not even quote me a price in Canadian dollars, so I did not pursue that one......... :roll:

Oh well, Whitetail/Moose/Elk will have to do for now anyways.
