Looking to take my father moose hunting next year , not this fall the one after 2024... probably for the last time as age is catching up...Would like your recommendations as to the best outfitter / lodge in Canada, someone who can provide a tag and can take us out in the morning or has quads to rent, somewhere that is nice , has good food and friendly people, and a place that has a good potential of being successful and will help get the moose out of the bush. Not looking for cheap , looking for quality.
If you don't want to post in here shoot me a pm.
Thanks !

Message hoytcanon on this forum, you won’t find a more solid guy and he works with a moose outfitter. If you’re looking for big Alaska-Yukon bulls, just bear in mind you can truly spend huge money doing that for a fairly rough hunt in comforts as Phil / Medved illustrates. If you’re looking for something comfortable and in Ontario, Hoyt’s your guy.

Thanks everyone! Would love to do an Alaskan hunt!,But not sure he would be able, pretty rough, has a hard time getting around some days.
Will talk to everyone and go from there .. if the Alaskan one doesn't happen I will do that one myself down the road.

Shockey runs basically two types of moose hunts; high country in Argos, and river hunts from a boat. A river hunt might be what you're looking for if your Dad has mobility problems. There are other outfitters in the Yukon that offer the same service, it's just that Shockey is the best at publicizing his.

Newfoundland has one of the highest success rates in the country. Prices are (or at least were) pretty reasonable when I last went. You can drive there from Ontario which makes transportation of meat, guns etc. easier.

I can only speak to the camp I was at, but the people and food were top notch.

We were in the central/South Western portion of the island, and the terrain wasn't too bad. Relatively open and easy walking, with some elevation. Much easier than my experiences in Northern Ontario with steep river banks, spongy black spruce woods, and lots of portages.

Best bet is to contact the outfitter and see what kind of accommodations can be made for someone with limited mobility.

MiG25 said it. There are outfitters who can hunt farmland in Alberta. Getting in and out of a boat on an “easy” float hunt is a lot tougher than stepping up into a F250.

float hunt are not easy ... and water level can be one of the problem ... shockey is maybe the best for publicity but i have to go on a paid hunt in the yukon i will not go with him that is a given there are many shyers outfitters that can tailor what you want.

Lake hunts can be pretty luxurious and depending on the system can have lots of area to cover
then back to the lodge for the night
but there is no 'best', pick the style hunt you want and make some calls

plus pick terrain you like, borael basins, rugged mountains, wandering rivers, swampy plains, etc ad nauseum

I am from Saskatchewan, and we have good moose hunting here and some good outfitters. But for value and opportunities to encounter numerous moose, I'd take a hard look at Newfoundland. Poplulations are high, hunts are reasonably priced, most outfitters have a good reputation. Moose are generally not as large as elsewhere in Canada but if really big antlers aren't the goal, the rest fits. But I don't know a Newfoundland outfitter personally to recommend.

Check out HOTR- (Huntin On The Rock) on Youtube.
He's the niceswt fella there is.
His name is Deon Dicks
He is in Newfoundland. - Gods country.
Check him out and send him an inquiry,
He would know the best guides

I hunted with Where Ya Wanna Be Outfitters in Newfoundland in 2019, and they are exactly what you are looking for. Lots of moose, great lodge, and great food. We hunted out of a side by side all week. Nicest people in the world. Check them out for sure.
